We built FuelDrop because sending someone "gas money" has always required trust it can't verify. We replaced that trust with math.
FuelDrop started with a simple, recurring problem: a parent sends their kid $40 "for gas," and it becomes a coffee run, or worse, no fuel and a stranded car on the highway. Employers wire fuel reimbursements that quietly cover errands. Fleet managers reconcile receipts by hand because there's no way to know a card was actually swiped at a pump.
Every existing option asked the sender to trust the receiver, or the receiver to trust a card network's definition of "gas station" โ which, in practice, includes convenience stores, car washes, and attached fast food counters. We wanted funds that were mathematically incapable of being anything but fuel.
"We didn't want to build another wallet. We wanted to build a wallet that physically cannot do the wrong thing with your money." โ FuelDrop founding team
Purpose-locked payment rails โ money that's restricted at the protocol level to a single category of spend โ will become the default for reimbursements, allowances, and benefits. Fuel is where we start because the failure mode (an empty tank) is immediate and dangerous.
Credits aren't a policy or a promise โ they're issued as single-use QR redemptions tied to a fuel transaction type. There's no cash-out path to disable, because one was never built.
From a napkin sketch to a working app with QR redemption at any pump.
Ignis Capital LLC begins prototyping purpose-locked fuel credits after repeated requests from fleet operators for better reimbursement tracking.
Core product shipped: Stripe-backed wallets, phone-number-only onboarding, and QR redemption that refreshes every 2 minutes for security.
Peer-to-peer transfers go live. Personal credits auto-expire and refund after 24 hours; fleet credits extend to 7 or 30-day windows.
FuelDrop opens its waitlist and begins raising $500K on a SAFE note to expand fleet tooling and language support.
The lock isn't a limitation we apologize for โ it's the entire reason FuelDrop exists.
Recipients redeem with a text message. Access shouldn't require a download, an account, or a language barrier.
If a credit isn't used, it isn't lost โ it refunds automatically. No disputes, no chasing.
Sent, redeemed, refunded, expired โ full history, in real time, for personal and fleet accounts alike.
QR redemption at any station โ we didn't wait on merchant integrations to be useful.
English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Arabic today โ more on the way.
"We're a small team operating as Ignis Capital LLC, building FuelDrop out of Las Vegas. We're not trying to reinvent payments broadly โ just to make sure that when someone says 'this money is for gas,' it actually is. If that sounds obvious, that's kind of the point."
